Does marble stain?
Any hard surface can be stained, although marble’s reputation
for staining is mostly incorrect. Marble is affected by acids, so
acidic liquids such as wine, vinegar, and some cleaners will etch
the polish on marble, changing the finish but not staining it.
Does granite stain?
Any hard surface can be stained, although unlike marble, granite
is not affected by acids. Most anything spilled on granite will
clean up if not left to dry.
Will hot items hurt marble
or granite?
No. Hot pans can be placed directly on stone without harming the
surface.
Do stone tops crack in
time?
Not if they are correctly installed. The cabinets or other supporting
structure for stone countertops must be specially prepared before
the stone is put down.
Can a granite counter top
be repaired if it is damaged?
Yes. Scratches and chips can often be repaired with the counter
top in place. More substantial damage may require removal of the
affected piece for repair. In some cases replacement of the damaged
piece is required.
What is the lead time
for installation of granite and marble counter tops?
That varies, but usually the counter tops are ready to be installed
two weeks or less from the time the templates used for their fabrication
are prepared. Actual installation usually takes only a day or two.
